Flatiron Building

The building probably featured on more postcards than any other contemporary building. Even the whole area, the Flatiron district, was named after the building. Originally the Flatiron building featured an observatory on the top floor, but taller buildings have taken over this function. It is still however a popular tourist attraction, and one of the most photographed landmarks in New York. The Flatiron Building was constructed between 1901 and 1903 at the intersection of Broadway and 5th Avenue, at the time one of the most prominent sites. It is located near Madison Square at the end of the Ladies Mile, one of Manhattan’s most important shopping districts at the turn of the 19th century. The Flatiron Building was designed by Chicago’s Daniel Burnham as a steel-frame skyscraper clad in Flatiron Buildingwhite terra-cotta. At 21 stories and 307 ft (93 meter), it was one of the city’s tallest buildings. It was not – as is often incorrectly thought – the tallest building in the world or even the tallest building in New York (these titles belonged to the Park Row building, built in 1899), but its singular shape and prominent location soon made it one of New York City’s most famous landmarks.

Empire State Building

New York, New York what a wonderful place and the Empire State is no exception. Visit in the late afternoon and stay until after sunset to enjoy the magic of the Big Apple. The elevator ride leaves your stomach somewhere on the 33rd floor of this 89 storey building. When you get to the top and step out, you realize how high you are because it’s really cold and windy. There’s absolutely no way you could fall off because they’ve got wire fences everywhere, which is annoying for taking photos. Looking over is seriously scary even though you’re safe. The strange thing when you get up there is you expect it to be quiet and it isn’t… you hear constant sounds of police cars and ambulances but nothing else. It’s a very humbling experience. The elegance and sheer class of the Empire State, the glorious Act Deco lobby, and the stunning views across to similarly superb buildings like the Rockerfeller and Chrysler buildings combine to make this a staggering experience. It lives up to, or even surpasses, your expectations.

A symbol of the cultural life of Havana

The Colorado Avalanche are a professional ice hockey team based in Denver, Colorado. They play in the National Hockey League (NHL). The team started play in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association. During the seven WHA seasons, the Nordiques won the Avco Cup Championship once, in 1977. Two years later, they entered the NHL, along with the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes) and the Winnipeg Jets (now the Phoenix Coyotes). When they’ve found themselves experiencing on-ice success but off-ice financial failure during the lockout shortened 1994-95 NHL season team owner Marcel Aubut asked for a bailout from Quebec’s provincial government. The bailout fell through and Aubut subsequently sold the team to a group of investors in Denver.

Colorado College continues to build upon its legacy as a hockey powerhouse by fielding a nationally ranked team. Playing in the spectacular Colorado Springs World Arena, the Tigers have won three league titles, earned eight consecutive home-ice playoff berths and six NCAA tournament bids. In an effort to reduce the stress and pressure on our players during the tryout process, and to provide them as well as the evaluators an environment where they can focus on their hockey with less distractions, the Colorado Select will be instituting a closed tryout format this year. the stadium
Hockey – Colorado Avalanche Out of those four, they love hockey and football the most. If you are in Denver on a Sunday when the Broncos are playing, you’re in for a treat! The city goes nuts. Try to get out to Mile High Stadium if you can.

The Elvis’s home – Graceland

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Memphis and enjoy visiting celebrity homes, don’t miss touring Elvis’s 14-acre estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Touring Graceland is a one-of-a-kind experience that will lead you on Elvis’s fascinating journey to super stardom. Graceland is the name of the large white-columned estate that once belonged to Elvis Presley, located at 3734 Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.

Graceland

staircaseWhen Elvis was a boy, he told his parents that one day he would make a lot of money and buy them the finest house in town. Buying Graceland in 1957 was, for Elvis, the fulfillment of that dream and proof of how far he had come. Settled on 14 acres, the mansion that the Presley called home is the second most famous house in America and one of the most visited homes in America today.

The front room features a white marble fireplace and Louis XIV furniture. After buying Graceland, Elvis added several rooms including a trophy room and racquetball court. In addition, Elvis erected a pink Alabama field stone wall around the property and also the famous wrought-iron, guitar gates at a cost of $3,052.
Millions of visitors to Graceland pass by the staircase to the 2nd floor during their tour of the mansion. Everyone sees the guard posted at the bottom of the stairs, another guard is posted at the top of the stairs as a sentinel, barricading the ominous locked door. A portrait of Elvis lines the stairs, but you can’t go upstairs- that part of Graceland is forever closed to the public. Not even the tour guides have been there.
